Join us for MET Research Days & Industrial Pre-Event

MET Research Days brings together hundreds of researchers, students, and partners to celebrate the diverse and cutting-edge research within our multidisciplinary faculty. Our aim is to promote open discussion, spark new ideas, and foster networks that drive scientific and societal impact.
Industrial Pre-event — Bridging research and industry
The MET Industrial Pre-event, organized in collaboration with Business Tampere, takes place on Wednesday, 29 October 2025 and kicks off the MET Research Days week. The event brings together health and biotechnology researchers, data scientists, and industry representatives to discuss, connect, and explore new collaboration opportunities.
This year’s theme, “Health AI, Digital Twins & Chip Twins — Bridging AI-driven simulations and organ-on-chip models to transform healthcare and drug discovery,” highlights how artificial intelligence and advanced modeling technologies are reshaping medical research and innovation.
Participants will hear insights from leading companies and research groups on data-driven healthcare, predictive medicine, and next-generation biotech. The program features speakers from Abbvie, Charles River, CGI, Veracell, Lakka Health, Biogenium Microsystems, HippocrAItes, Solid IO, LifeGlue Technologies, and Near Real.
The event offers a valuable opportunity to network, discover R&D partnerships, and strengthen visibility within the Tampere Health Ecosystem — a collaborative environment for academics and industry.
Invited keynotes
This year’s keynote speakers represent an exciting range of topics across neuroscience, medical technology, and computational imaging:
- Prof. Frank Bradke (German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, DZNE) explores the mechanisms of axon growth and regeneration, revealing how developmental mechanisms can be harnessed to promote neuronal repair after spinal cord injury.
- Assoc. Prof. Erik Groot Jebbink (University of Twente & Rijnstate Hospital) introduces the concept of Technical Medicine as the key to truly personalized healthcare, showcasing clinical applications of advanced ultrasound imaging for cardiovascular and cancer treatment.
- Assoc. Prof. Riku Klén (University of Turku) discusses how machine learning–based analysis of cancer tomography images can automate image interpretation and improve early cancer detection.
MET Research Highlights: Success stories from EU projects
This year, the invited MET Research Highlight talks focus on major EU-funded projects coordinated or joined by our faculty. Responding to the growing interest in international collaboration, these sessions not only introduce the scientific content of the projects but also share insights into the proposal process, network building, and how to join successful consortia.
Innovation and research-to-business
Innovation remains a core theme at MET Research Days. The program features pitch presentations from Business Finland’s Research to Business (R2B) projects and one Proof of Concept (POC) project. These pitches showcase how promising research results are being translated into solutions with commercial potential and societal value.
Scientific program and community
The Scientific Committee has curated a rich selection of 17 research talks, 28 poster pitches, and 147 posters, representing the breadth of research across MET’s disciplines. Combined with the Industrial Pre-Event and Commercial Exhibition, this year’s event highlights the strength of academia–industry collaboration and the vibrant scientific community within our faculty.
MET RD Scientific Committee and MET RD Organizing Committee look forward to welcoming you to MET Research Days 2025!
