In his doctpral dissertation, M.Soc.Sci. Jie Li examines how working conditions may influence employee well-being and mental health from a holistic perspective. The state of well-being amog Finnish workers is one of the most prevalent concerns today. However, the focus has mainly been on preventing ill-being, such as burnout and anxiety symptoms. Much less emphasis has been placed on understanding what fosters positive well-being in a everchanging working life. The findings suggest that a holistic approach to employee well-being and mental health provides valuable theoretical and practical insights to understanding working conditions, such as effort–reward imbalance, job boredom, and career crafting, i.e., the proactive shaping of one’s career path.

Jie Li’s doctoral dissertation in the field of Social Psychology titled A Holistic Approach to Employee Well-being and Mental Health: Causes, Connections, and Underlying Processes will be publicly examined at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Tampere University on Friday, 20 March 2025.

The opponent will be Professor Marit Christensen from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Professor Atte Oksanen from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Tampere University will be the custos.
