Finnish Cultural Foundation grants €1.8 million to TAU’s researchers

The Finnish Cultural Foundation granted a total of €27 million to 1.037 applicants in arts and scientific research. At Tampere University, the number of grant recipients is 56.
The largest individual grants were awarded to research on nutrition and health, and a study on pollinators.
At Tampere University, the biggest grant of €250.000 was awarded to Professor Katri Kaukinen and Associate Professor Kati Juuti-Uusitalo for research on the positive and negative health effects of gluten (recipient: Celiac Research Center at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology).
The Foundation also awarded €200.000 to
Professor Eeva Moilanen and her working group for research on the health effects of nutrition and on the connections between nutrition and medication (recipients: Tampere University and Tampere University Hospital).
Associate Keijo Viiri and his working group for research on the molecular damage caused by dietary gluten in celiac disease and on the treatment of the disease (recipient: Tampere University).
The funding received by researchers at Tampere University totals €1.803.000. In addition to the major grants, the other awarded sums range from €5.000 to €40.000.

Among the fields of science, medicine received the most funding at Tampere University, with the Finnish Cultural Foundation awarding 12 grants totalling €851.000. The largest number of individual grants (18) was awarded to researchers in the social sciences, and they total €376.000. The Foundation also awarded €274.000 to humanities. Other beneficiaries at TAU included behavioural sciences, engineering, natural sciences, and architecture.
In the October call for applications for the Finnish Cultural Foundation, 8,677 applications were submitted. Scientific research accounted for 55% of the grants awarded and the arts for 45%.
