Tell us about yourself and your studies.

Hello! I'm Afreena Emrose Ontee, studying in Sustainable Architecture Masters programme at Tampere University. I am solidly passionate about sustainable building design and researching built environments to create a better community. I am from Bangladesh and completed my B.Arch. degree from the University of Asia Pacific. I love to explore the new city, nordic architecture and culture in Finland. Being a student ambassador, I'm here to response for your curious question about University and student life.

What is your favourite thing about your study programme at Tampere University?

Before starting my masters degree, I searched for a programme which will focus in research along with practical solution. I want to analyse about built environments through sustainable building design. And my programme seems completely a right fit for me in that aspect. The best thing of the programme is that I can start learning from theoretical study and then apply it on my design project. It seems more logical and interesting to me.

What kind of student activities have you participated in?

I've been participated in few students events from my programme. I have enjoyed students project exhibition, city tour organised by my course, library activity, study events and so on. Tampere University has the best scopes to enjoy student life here.

Did you develop any special skills while studying in Tampere?

Yes and I love it. My programme offers several free choice courses. From this opportunity, I am starting to learn new softwares for 3D modeling, visualisation and analysis of city planning also. During my course, I have to collaborate with teams and it helps me to create connections among different cultures.

What tips would you give to new students who are applying to study here?

Firstly, I must say to come here and enjoy your student life fullest. It's a life time experience for the international student to work with multicultural environment. In my opinion, Tampere University is an international hub for the students. So grab your dream and experience the student friendly city in Tampere.

What do you like most about Finland?

I love the Tampere city most. Such a student friendly city it is. It's obvious to say about the landscape, the snowflakes, the lakes and nature here. And I really like the transport system in Finland.

What do you like to do in your free time in Tampere?

In my free time, I really enjoy evening walk though the streets. I love to see the running trams and busy people roaming around the city. When I can manage some time from my study, I start walking to explore the city events.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I am glad to experience the systematic and planned study culture here. I found my friendly classmates, mentors and amazing learning environment. If you are eagerly waiting to enjoy an international environment around you, Tampere University never fails to amaze you.
