Hi, my name is Marius. Here is a photo of me in downtown Tampere on the rooftop of Finlayson.

How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here?

I've been in Tampere for two months now. I've come here to study for my bachelor's degree.

What subject(s) do you study and what made you choose them?

I'm currently doing my bachelor's degree in Computing and Electrical Engineering. Computers are so involved in our lives that I believe that the issues we currently face and will face in the future are going to be solved using computers. They are a powerful tool that make life better and easier.

What do you like most about Tampere and Finland? What has been the most surprising or different thing about living here?

What I like about Tampere and Finland in general is how close I am to the environment. I can go to a forest within a walking distance. I like how Tampere is very multi-cultural. I didn't expect there to be a lot of people from different cultural backgrounds. This makes a great experience where we get to learn about different cultures and also share our culture.

What are your hobbies in Tampere? Have you tried out any new hobbies since coming here?

Currently my hobbies are reading, doing sports at Tamppi Arena in Hervanta and exploring places I haven't been to, especially in the city centre.

What kind of student activities have you participated in?

For the past two months I've participated in multiple activities for Fuksis (First year students). For instance, there was Fuksi Weekend where we went to a cottage for a weekend and had fun activities. I've also experienced many Teekkari activities such as the Teekkari sauna.

What would you say to someone who's trying to decide whether Tampere is the right place to come to study and live?

I would say if you're looking for a student friendly city that is very close to the environment with people from diverse backgrounds then Tampere is the right choice for you.

What is your favourite thing about the student culture in Finland?

I like the independence the students are given. I think there's a heavy focus on comprehension and self-responsibility which is wonderful as it creates responsible graduates ready for the job market.
