Speech Processing, Lectures

This is an advanced-level course on speech signal processing and speech technology, focusing on the analysis, transformation, and synthesis of speech signals. The aim is to provide the student with fundamental understanding of speech as a phenomenon and how speech data can be processed automatically for various application and research purposes.

After completion of the course, the student can:

-        analyse and understand the basic structure of speech signals.

-        implement and operate basic speech analysis and synthesis algorithms

In addition, the student understands:

-        the basics of speech production and perception in humans, and how these principles can be utilised in efficient speech processing algorithms

-        how to linguistically analyse and characterise speech signals

-        how to acoustically analyse and characterise speech signals

-        how basic and state-of-the-art automatic speech recognition, speech synthesis, and speaker recognition systems operate

-        how various speaker-related factors such as health and emotions can be inferred from speech data

The student also knows:

-        to what type of problems speech processing methods are applicable to

-        the different types of types of information carried by speech signals
