This page contains information about course registration in <a href="https://sisu.tuni.fi/">Sisu</a>, course registration dates as well as instructions for resolving problems with course registration. Before you can register for teaching, you need to create at least one personal study plan (PSP). Note: When you take an exam in the EXAM system, always register for the exam's implementation in Sisu, so that the teacher can grade you in Sisu. <h3>Check courses for updates</h3><ol><li>Open you study plan on the Structure of studies tab. If your study plan has the following notification update the courses to the newest version.</li></ol><figure role="group"><img src="https://content-webapi.tuni.fi/image-style/max_1300x1300/proxy/public/2024-09/updateable_courses_notification.png?itok=qyl9hib1" alt="Note! Your study plan includes courses that have a version available for the current curriculum period. View courses to update" ></figure><ol start="2"><li>Select View courses to update from the notification.</li><li>For each course, select Show course.</li><li>For each course, select the version that includes the academic year you are registering for. (First, select the version from the drop-down menu and then select Switch to this version.)&nbsp;</li></ol><figure role="group"><img src="https://content-webapi.tuni.fi/image-style/max_1300x1300/proxy/public/2024-09/ark_ad_520_version_selection_75_prosenttia.png?itok=_HbZbADE" alt="" ></figure><ol start="5"><li>When you switch a course to a different version, the course loses its place on your timeline. Go to the Timeline tab and place the updated courses back on your timeline (<a href="/en/node/58391?channel=study_guide&organisation=uni" data-entity-type="node" data-entity-uuid="74016bbb-3694-4c95-8d25-da54cb4c0ece" data-entity-substitution="canonical">Timeline instructions</a>).</li></ol><h3>Check completion method selection</h3><ol><li>In your study plan, check that you have selected a completion method for all the courses you are palnning to register for.</li><li>If the course says Completion method not selected choose Select completion method.&nbsp;</li></ol><figure role="group"><img src="https://content-webapi.tuni.fi/image-style/max_1300x1300/proxy/public/2024-09/ark_ad_520_completion_method_not_selected_75_prosenttia.png?itok=SHemwKBt" alt="" ></figure><ol start="3"><li>Select the completion method you want to use. Note, that when choosing a completion method you do not see what course implementations are offered for the completion method and when they are offered. By selecting the course's name you can open the course information sheet where you can find more information on the Completion methods tab.</li><li>Select Confirm.</li></ol><h3>Register</h3><ol><li>Go to the Registration tab.</li><li>Check that the study right on the Registration tab matches the study plan you are following.</li><li>Look for the course you are registering for under Uncompleted courses in the primary study plan and select Select a course unit on the course.&nbsp;</li></ol><figure role="group"><img src="https://content-webapi.tuni.fi/image-style/max_1300x1300/proxy/public/2024-09/uncompleted_courses_in_the_primary_study_plan_75_prosenttia.png?itok=kzlhsYQw" alt="" ></figure><ol start="4"><li>Select the course unit(s) you want to register for. (Select one course unit under each heading. You only need to choose more than one if you are switching to a different course unit or retaking to raise your grade.)</li><li>Select Confirm. If registration for the course unit has started a Go to registration pop-up opens.&nbsp;</li><li>Select Go to registration.</li></ol>(If you do not get the Go to registration pop-up, you can find the course unit lower on the Registration tab in the Register column.)<h3>Select groups</h3><ol><li>Select the groups you want, if there are groups to select. When you sign up for a course with many groups, you are more likely to be accepted if you choose several groups. In general, you should choose all the groups that have a time that suits you. If you prefer a particular group, indicate your preference for that group. Selected groups in your Sisu calendar: As you select groups when registering, Sisu adds all selected groups into your study calendar. All the groups stay visible in your calendar, even after your registration has been confirmed and you have been placed in one group. You can remove the extra groups from your calendar by selecting the teaching in your study calendar and then selecting Other teaching groups and Show events in the calendar.</li><li>Select Confirm from Below the group options.</li></ol><h3>Processing registrations</h3>After you have confirmed your registration, it is ready to be processed. Your registration can be processed in one of two ways:<ol><li>Your registration&nbsp;is confirmed or rejected immediately based on whether you fulfil the basic requirements set for the course unit. If your registration&nbsp;is confirmed it is moved into Registration processed on the Registration tab and will read&nbsp;Your registration has been confirmed.</li><li>Registrations&nbsp;are processed and your registration&nbsp;confirmed or rejected, after the course unit's registration&nbsp;time ends. This processing may be done manually and may take some time. During that time, your registration will appear under Registrations being processed.&nbsp;Before the registration&nbsp;time ends, Sisu will show you a prediction of whether your registration&nbsp;would be confirmed. The prediction can often be incorrect as more students might still register&nbsp;and there might be selection criteria in use&nbsp;which Sisu cannot calculate into the prediction.</li></ol>If you have confirmed your registration and it was rejected or you do not meet the conditions for registration, first look at the reason under Registration details.If Sisu says you do not meet the conditions of Valid right to study and/or Present, make sure your <a href="/enhttps://www.tuni.fi/en/node/3044?channel=study_guide&organisation=uni" data-entity-type="node" data-entity-uuid="2d6551f8-bd02-470e-881f-8be8b5668d06" data-entity-substitution="canonical">academic year enrolment</a> is in order.If you do not meet the requirement Course version is part of your primary study plan, first make sure that the course is in your primary study plan. If the course is in your study plan, see section 1 of the Problems with registering for a course section on this page.Also make sure that there are places left in the course unit and at least one of the groups you have chosen.If the reason for the rejection is unclear or wrong and you cannot resolve the situation yourself, contact the person responsible for the course. The contact person's details can be found in the Completion methods&nbsp;tab of the course information sheet under the relevant teaching.&nbsp;

Registering for courses in Sisu

You can cancel your registration for an implementation if the implementation has not yet started or if the implementation has started and has an additional period for cancellation. If it is no longer possible to cancel the registration, it should be replaced by the possibility to withdraw from the course.

1. Go to the Registration tab.

2. Scroll down the tab to Registration for the selected course unit. The registration should appear under Registration(s) being processed or Registration processed.

3. Under the implementation, select Cancel or Withdraw from this course.

Once registration for an implementation has closed but the implementation has not yet started, you may not be able to cancel your registration or withdraw from the implementation. In these situations, you should contact the person responsible for the implementation or wait until the implementation has started so that you can withdraw from it.

Registration start times and earliest registration end times are the most commonly used times. Registration end times vary more than start times between faculties, degree programmes, specialisations and even individual courses. Check the registration times for your courses and register in the student information system <a href="http://www.tuni.fi/sisu">Sisu</a>.

Course enrolment dates 

If you have problems with registering for a course contact the person responsible for the course unit. You can find the responsible persons in Sisu on the course's info sheet on the Completion methods tab under the teaching in question.<h6>Sisu says that I do not meet the "The correct version of the course is included in the primary study plan" requirement even though the course is in my primary study plan.</h6>This problem can be caused by having a different version of the course in your study plan versus your registration. This can happen, for example, if you register for a teaching first and then switch the course to a newer version in your study plan. (<a href="https://intra.tuni.fi/en/handbook?page=28460">Instructions for switching versions in your study plan</a>)Check the version of the course in your study plan and registration by opening the course's info sheet from both your study plan and your registration (on Sisu's Registration tab). See that the versions have the same academic years listed.When you have different versions of a course in your study plan and you registration, you can fix the situation in the following way:Make sure that your study plan has a version of the course with the same academic year during which the teaching you are registered for takes place. If the teaching you are registered for is not during one of the academic years listed in the course version in your study plan, change the course version in your study plan.If the wrong version of the course is in your registration do the following:<ol><li>Open the Registration tab.</li><li>If your registration is in the Registration processed column and is confirmed you do not need to do anything.</li><li>If your registration is in the registration(s) being processed column, registration has not ended, and a Cancel button is available:<ol><li>Select Cancel. Your registration should move to the Register column.</li><li>Find your registraion in the Register column and select Remove course unit selection.</li><li>Select the course unit again from under Uncompleted courses in the primary study plan.</li><li>Register again in the Registration tab.</li></ol></li><li>If you are rejected or going to be rejected and instead of the Cancel button there is a Re-register button, contact the person responsible for the teaching.</li></ol><h6>Can I enrol for a course before I have created a personal study plan (PSP) or before my custom module has been accepted?</h6>You must have a PSP before you can enrol. Possible custom modules that differ from the normal curriculum of your programme do not have to be approved.&nbsp;<h6>I am an exchange student registered for a single semester. How do I register for courses that last the entire academic year?</h6>Sisu requires that you have a valid study right for the whole duration of the course unit you register for. However, there are, for example, forms of independent study (essays, exams, etc.) where in practice you can complete the course unit without being around for the whole duration of the course unit. When your registration is automatically rejected in these situations, contact the teacher responsible for the course unit: they can confirm your registration manually.
