SIX supercharger - digital twins in sustainable and intelligent manufacturing

Tampere University of Applied Sciences
Duration of project1.2.2024–31.7.2024

Goal

The purpose of the SIX supercharger - digital twins in sustainable and intelligent manufacturing  (SIX Super) project is to create a supra-provincial research plan and an operating model that helps companies' twin transition under the Sustainable Industry X (SIX) initiative (www.six.fi). SIX brings together export-oriented companies and subcontractors, which aim to meet the challenges of the future effectively.

At the center of SIX Super are digital twins, which make it possible to create a virtual environment simulating a factory, manufacturing process or manufacturing chain to support smart and sustainable manufacturing.

Tampere University of Applied Sciences, University of Tampere, Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT, University of Oulu and Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences form a complex of research laboratories and research cooperation in the manufacturing industry. In the SIX Super preparatory project, together with the companies, a working life-oriented research plan is developed, which is implemented in the respective consortium and the respective laboratories by utilizing digital twins. The research results support companies in the competitive double transition in the provinces covered by the project. During the preparation project, the consortium will be supplemented with new members. Each member of the research consortium has its own focus area to which digital twins are applied.

The main goal of the preparatory project is to develop a competitive application focused on digital twins within the SIX Super consortium, with at least 10 to 20 companies joining the steering group.

The work packages of the project are as follows:
TP1: Digital twins in production: SIX Super research plan
TP2: Engagement of companies and iteration of the plan;
TP3: Communication and coordination. The result of the preparatory project is the SIX Super application.
