Science studies group
Research focus and goals
We investigate the epistemic, social and societal dimensions of scientific knowledge and expertise. The general interest lies in how the transformations of the science-society contract in the current knowledge-intensive economy shape research practices, academic identities, scientific ideals and boundaries between science and non-science. We pay special attention to disciplinary and institutional contexts as well as local, regional and national settings. The research areas include academic work, affects and temporalities; women and science; expertise and ignorance; and struggles over legitimate knowledge.
Science studies group works in close interaction with researchers from other units at Tampere University and beyond and coordinates STI Tampere network.
