Project

Circular economy operating model for the construction sector

Co-funded by the European Union
Tampere University
Duration of project1.9.2025–31.8.2026

Efficient recycling and reuse of construction waste are key goals in promoting a circular economy and carbon neutrality. The sector needs to develop an efficient means of sorting waste and getting it into circulation quickly. There is a particularly strong need in the construction sector to find a solution for how waste would be sorted as quickly as possible in practice and how sorting and the circular economy could be made profitable in the sector.

The main theme of the project is the development of the circular economy and finding new solutions to make it more efficient. The starting point is the business orientation, i.e. the project themes have emerged in discussions with companies in different sectors. The aim of the project is to prepare a written report on the costs and requirements of establishing a construction waste sorting center in particular, in order to assess its economic and ecological profitability.

The report resulting from the project serves as a basis for deciding on operating methods and models.
