The AIRSHIP Project is a European Union-funded initiative aiming to revolutionize short-distance transportation by developing fully electric, unmanned wing-in-ground (WIG) effect vehicles. These innovative aerial vehicles combine the speed and flexibility of airborne transport with the energy efficiency and environmental benefits of ground-effect flight.
Key goals of the project include
- creating a new class of Unmanned WIG Vehicles (UWVs) for cargo transport
- advancing zero-emission propulsion technologies, onboard AI, and autonomous flight control systems
- improving sustainability by reducing carbon emissions and noise pollution
- enhancing mobility in regions with extensive archipelagos and inland waterways, especially in Europe.
The project is part of the Horizon Europe programme and is conducted by a consortium of academic and industrial partners.
