International student tutoring requires some serious planning and some practical work. In the following training you will get to know some basics of your responsibilities, your future role and some up-to-date information on the upcoming autumn semester arrivals. Please note that the training will be held in English and will not be recorded, but slides will be published in Moodle.

The tutors selected in spring 2026 for the autumn semester 2026 exchange students have been informed about the upcoming training and invited via email. The training will cover the basics of tutoring, supporting exchange students, and practical matters such as cultural differences and student well-being.

An international tutor is often the first contact a new student has with the university and provides essential help with many practical matters related to starting their studies. Regular meetings and joint events provide unforgettable experiences and new friendships and networks for both tutors and tutees. For faculties, international student tutors are an essential and valued part of the initial peer guidance, helping students to quickly get involved in their studies and the student community.

As an international student tutor, you will work in a multicultural group for a semester or an academic year. You will gain valuable work-life skills in intercultural communication, teamwork, and project management, get to know the university's services, and most importantly, make new friends and have fun experiences. Serving as an international student tutor can also be included in your degree's internationalisation module. Tutoring exchange students is part of internationalisation at home and fulfills the university's internationalisation goals. Working as an international student tutor benefits both exchange students and the tutors' personal and professional growth. Participating in training sessions enhances tutors' ability to positively impact the international student community at Tampere University.
