Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious public health and social issue worldwide. In her doctoral research, Tomomi Hisasue, Master of Public Health and Master of Science, shows that IPV victims experience greater psychological distress and have a lower quality of life compared to individuals who did not report exposure to IPV. Hisasue highlights that high direct health-related costs and increased mental health service use are already observed before the first formal service contact among IPV victims.

The doctoral dissertation of MPH, MSc Tomomi Hisasue in the field of Social Psychiatry titled Health-related Costs and Mental Health Service Use among Victims of Intimate Partner Violence in Finland will be publicly examined at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Tampere University on Friday 30 January 2026.

The Opponent will be Professor Janne Kivivuori from Helsinki University. The Custos will be Professor Sami Pirkola from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University.
