Master of Social Sciences Anna-Maria Maunu has been appointed as director of communications at Tampere University. Maunu will take up her new position on 1 February 2021.

The director of communications leads the University’s Communications and Marketing unit, which currently employs approximately 30 staff members. The unit is part of the People and Communications service division.

Maunu joins Tampere University from her previous position as the City of Tampere’s director of communications. During her career, Maunu has also occupied communications roles in the Ministry of the Environment of Finland and the Supreme Court and worked as a journalist, among other things, at Yleisradio, Finland’s national public service broadcasting company.

“I am excited to join the Tampere Universities community and look forward to working with its team of communications professionals. Tampere University has a key role in increasing the attractiveness of not only the city but the entire Tampere region. In fact, the University is the reason that originally brought me to Tampere and gave me the impetus to pursue a career in communications,” Maunu says.

Altogether 24 people – 13 women and 11 men – applied for the position of director of communications.  In addition, two persons were invited to apply through an executive search.
