In his doctoral dissertation, Master of Records and Archives Management (MARM) Aliyu Abubakar Lawan examined how effective records management influences anti-corruption investigations in Nigeria. The study found that maintaining record integrity throughout the record life cycle is vital for transparency, accountability, and successful prosecution, while challenges such as resistance to electronic recordkeeping hinder progress. These findings are important because they highlight the need for robust legal frameworks and technological adoption to strengthen governance and fight corruption. Improved records management benefits investigators, policymakers, and the public by enhancing efficiency and trust in anti-corruption efforts.

The doctoral dissertation of MARM Aliyu Abubakar Lawan in the field of Information Studies titled The Role of Records Management in Anti-corruption Investigation in Nigeria will be publicly examined at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University on 23 January 2026.

The Opponent will be Professor Emerita Karen Anderson from Mid Sweden University in Sweden. The Custos will be University Lecturer, Docent Pekka Henttonen from Tampere University’s Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences.
