
Kauppi campus - the home base for medicine and life sciences
The Kauppi campus of Tampere University is a community of 1,500 degree and doctoral students. It is a workplace of 600 employees. Together with Tampere University Hospital, the campus forms a hub of top researchers in Finnish medicine, life sciences and health sciences.
Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology

Main entrance and info at Arvo
The main entrance of Arvo is found on the eastern side of the building. If you are coming from the direction of Tampere University Hospital, the main entrance is located behind the Arvo building. If you are coming along Arvo Ylpön katu, the main entrance is on the right side of the building.
Near the main entrance, you will find the info desk and the house managers. There are also three other entrances to the building, but there are neither an info desk nor house managers near them.
The info desk is easy to approach also with a wheelchair. The info desk advise you on the accessibility of the building, for example, the location of accessible toilets. Campus maps are available at the info desks.
Parking at Kauppi campus
A fee is charged for parking.
Visitors can park on the Kauppi campus and hospital area if they pay parking fees. Parking spaces for disabled people can be found near the entrances. Only those holding a disabled person’s parking permit may use those spaces. A permit granted in the EU Member States is valid in all EU Member States. The permit is valid for the holder and is not restricted to a specific vehicle.

Arriving at Kauppi campus by bike
Arriving on campus by bike is easy and fast. Find the most suitable cycling route in Nysse's route guide. You can also familiarise yourself with Tampere's cycling maps (in Finnish).
The city bikes are in use every year from 15 April to 31 October. The station network reaches every campus, which also facilitates moving between the campuses.
Check out current information about city bike stations and the price list. To use city bikes, you need the Tampere city bikes app, which you use to register as a city bike user and pay for the user fee. You can download the app from Google Play or the App Store.
Wireless networks for visitors
Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences offer guests wireless internet access across their campuses. As these networks are not available to all, users need to log in either with their home institution’s username and password, if their home institution has joined the roaming service, or through a temporary guest account. On Kauppi campus, you can use these wireless networks:
- Eduroam: international roaming service. Log in with your home institution’s username and password. eduroam.fi
- Roam.fi: Finnish wireless access service. Log in with your home institution’s username and password. roam.fi (in Finnish)
- TUNI-GUEST: The guest network is unencrypted. By opening the activation link, you have access to the TUNI-GUEST visitor network for 12 hours.
Campus accessibility
Moving around the campus
Accessibility to all the buildings is ensured by ramps, elevators and automatic doors. New elevators have voice control and many elevators also have Braille buttons.
Resting room
The Kauppi campus has a room for temporary resting. The room is locked and the info desk personnel open the door when necessary.

Teaching and meeting rooms
Most of the large auditoriums have space for wheelchairs either at the top or the bottom of the room, and automatic doors. Most of the teaching and meeting rooms have movable furniture.
The large lecture halls on the Kauppi campus feature an audio induction loop and the other facilities may be equipped with a portable induction loop.
Parking and accompanying vehicles
All campuses have parking spaces for the disabled close to the entrances.
Restaurants
The campus restaurants serve several different dishes each day. Ask the restaurant for an option that suits you.
It is not possible to get food while sitting in a wheelchair in all the restaurants. In such cases, ask the restaurant personnel for help.

Accessibility and special arrangements (students)
The campus offers a broad range of venues that accommodate a variety of events and meetings. You can book, for example, a traditional lecture hall, spacious foyers or facilities for hosting festive events.

Restaurant Arvo is located on the leafy Kauppi campus, serving delicious lunches and tasty café products, as well as banquet and conference services.

Library
The Library is located on Arvo building’s 1st floor on the Kauppi campus. Arvo is a self-service unit. Arvo has course books and journals on medicine, biomedical sciences and health sciences and resources for medical specialisation requirements.
