The electrification of the energy system and society at large is a critical strategy for addressing climate change. Increasing the integration of renewable energy sources along with the adoption of electric vehicles and heat pumps, is essential for reducing fossil fuel carbon emissions and overall energy consumption. Significant investments and development efforts are currently underway worldwide in these areas, and expertise in power grids is in high demand.
The goal of the Smart Grid specialisation is to equip you with the skills to design and implement intelligent energy systems: to enhance the effectiveness, stability and reliability of the electricity systems and to integrate distributed energy resources into system management without compromising competitiveness and system security.
Teaching Powered by Top-Level Research
The specialization in Smart Grids develops systems thinking skills and provides students with a comprehensive range of technical design and analysis skills in electrical power engineering:
- Advanced energy storage solutions
- Renewable energy integration
- Grid automation and demand-response
- Data-driven optimization
Our education is based on long-standing research in smart grids.
