The section gives an overview of different currents of philosophy in contemporary century, as well as of the thinkers and debates that are central to them. Contemporary philosophy is presented against the background of 19th century philosophy. The student gets a general idea e.g. of phenomenology, logical empiricism, analytical philosophy, pragmatism, existentialism, hermeneutics and deconstruction.

The student knows the principal philosophical currents of contemporary philosophy. S/he is also aware of their cultural and social context, of their background in modern philosophy, and of their interaction. The aim is also to understand the theoretical background of contemporary systematic questions.

<h5>Completion mode &amp;amp; Assignment:</h5> <h5> </h5>1) Participation: Take part in the collective discussion that will be held during each lecture. Lectures will presuppose familiarity with the text. We will often do group work in class; thus, coming prepared to discuss the assigned text is essential and, indeed, required.Before every lecture, you can think about the reading material, focusing on some questions I formulate in anticipation of the class. Such questions are intended to guide both reading and group activities. 2) Written Work: &nbsp;Two options are availablea) &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Write a lecture diary addressing the following questions:&#183; What kind of advanced information did you have on the subject? What did you wish to learn from the event?&#183; What was the main point of what you learned? You should not only summarize the program and what the lecturer or other speakers said. Instead, you should also analyze, reflect, synthesize, and consider.&#183; What did you learn, realize, and discover in the event? What kind of picture did you get from the event&#8217;s subject or theme and its importance? Did you get new ideas and thoughts? Did you understand everything? Was there something that left you thinking?&#183; Evaluate your learning. Did the event meet your expectations? Did you achieve your goals?&#183; Consider whether you could utilize or apply what you learned later in your studies, e.g. in your thesis or other courses.The diary should be 8-10 pages (1.5 line spacing &#8211; 12 font size). b) &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Write a short essay about one or two topics discussed during the course. Refer your article to at least four texts we have been reading during the course and sum up their salient arguments. The length of the essay should be 8-10 pages (1.5 line spacing &#8211; 12 font size). Students who want to get more credits can discuss modifications to the final task and working materials with the teacher. 3) Guidelines for diaries and papers:&#183; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; clarity: the written work should have a clearly defined topic and focus.&#183; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; accuracy: the written work should present an author&#8217;s position in a fair way.&#183; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; assessment: the written work should evaluate the author&#8217;s position and bring to bear on the text or issue your own view; you must defend your view.4) Grading:Participation 20%Essays 60% Final Reflection 20%The final evaluation is established according to four criteria, which follow this order of priority: &#183; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Capacity to read, understand and critically analyze philosophical texts;&#183; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Clarity and expressive accuracy;
