Project consists of PhD research of M.Sc. Tuomas Vanhanen. The research tries to identify, analyse and solve the complex regulatory barriers that prevent sector coupling from rapidly allowing an increase in energy system flexibility.
The goal is achieved by close co-operation with the main stakeholders including ministries responsible for the regulatory frameworks in question, cities and industrial enterprises that are fit to offer flexibility services both on demand and supply side, including energy storage. Energy market and grid system operators are key stakeholders.
The research focuses on Hiedanranta area: a new urban area of 25 000 people in City of Tampere, Finland, that is currently under construction.
