The role of learned societies 2018-2019

The role of learned societies project studies the structure and function of Finnish learned societies in relation to their scientific publication and societal impact.  

The study focuses on scientific, professional, and learned associations and societies that exist to support the causes of an academic discipline, sub-discipline or field.

Goal

The project's goal is to discuss the following research questions:  

  1. What is the role of learned societies compared with commercial publishers, university presses and other type of scholarly publishers operating in Finland?
  2. What is the share of learned society journals and book publishers of the Finnish universities output?
