Psychiatric research group

In the studies of the Psychiatric Research Group, emphasis is given on mapping genetic and other biological factors associated with severe mental disorders such as schizophrenia and depression. The purpose of the research group is to find out the biological factors behind psychiatric diseases to understand the mechanisms of these diseases and to categorize them more precisely.

Genetic research methods focus primarily on the effectiveness and side effects of psychiatric medications and electro-convulsive therapy. In addition, we investigate the role of inflammatory agents in the occurrence and prognosis of mental disorders.

The research group collaborates in various projects with research groups at other Finnish universities.
