Ponte project

Tampere University
Duration of project1.1.2025–31.12.2027

In this project, we investigate the loss of cultural diversity and the mechanisms and grounds by which some forms of culture are excluded from cultural policy. Our research targets excluded environments as well as cultural experiencers and creators.

The project examines the mechanisms of officially recognized culture being excluded in relation to ongoing changes in society and politics. At present, especially austerity policies and the belittling of culture in political language threaten culture and its operating conditions. These changes justify the need for research that focuses on what kind of culture is able to participate in society's dwindling resources.

The project is multidisciplinary and the research questions are examined from the perspectives of cultural and art policy, marginalized groups and peripheralized environments. Examples to be studied include archipelago villages.
