NEXUS  -  Research Infrastructure for Interaction Between Humans, Technology, and Society

 

We are delighted to invite you to the NEXUS Kick-Off Event, taking place on January 30th at Café Aula

This event marks the launch of NEXUS, a University-level infrastructure of strategic significance, joining forces of four faculties and 12 laboratories, to build and strengthen our facilities and to foster research and innovation across our University.

Event Highlights:

 

·         Introduction to MAGICS national infrastructure 

·         Overview of NEXUS and Member Faculties

·         Faculty Showcase: Discover representative research and visions from each faculty

·         Lab Presentations: Get to know the work of our leading laboratories

·         Meet the NEXUS Staff: Learn about our mission, vision, and services

·         Demos: Hands-on demonstrations at LUDUS and nearby facilities

·         Closing Remarks and social reception, marked with a celebratory toast of sparkling wine and assorted catering.

 

Preliminary Schedule:

·         09:30 – Morning Coffee

·         10:00 – Event Opening (vice president, 5 min)

·         10:05 – MAGICS Introduction (Mikko Sams, ~10 minutes)

·         10:15 – NEXUS Introduction (Roope Raisamo, ~10 minutes)

·         10:30 – Talks by Faculty and Lab showcases

·         11:50 – Closing of the seminar

·         12:00 – 15:00 – Demos and lab visits

·         14:15 – 16:00 – Reception.

NEXUS combines the research environments across faculties of Education (EDU), Information Technology and Communication Sciences (ITC), Management and Business (MAB), and Social Sciences (SOC). At its core, NEXUS promotes cross-faculty collaboration, expands interdisciplinary research opportunities and provides methodological and technological support for all the faculties and research traditions involved.  

 

NEXUS promotes symbiotic faculty activities for MAGICS and the National Roadmap

  • Interdisciplinary Research & Education: Joint hackathons, project-based courses, and workshops for cross-faculty teams.
  • Shared Infrastructure: Centralized digital booking for labs and equipment; co-working zones.
  • Competence Development: Cross-training for technical staff and researchers.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Facilitated joint research and innovation projects with industry, public sector, and international partners.

NEXUS (formerly known as the Human-Centered Research Hub) is a multidisciplinary research infrastructure focused on human-centered research. As a member of the national MAGICS research infrastructure, it provides resource and a repository of the laboratory facilities and equipment, but also of the underlying cross-disciplinary competences. The research infrastructures offer wider range of opportunities for researchers and teachers that Nexus is poised to support, develop and promote for the full range of users.
