The main goal of the JATKOON project is to promote an increase in the number of higher education graduates and to smooth the transition of students from vocational education to university of applied sciences studies.
Background
The national goal of increasing the number of higher education graduates requires the development of a vocational pathway to further education. According to Karvi's study, those who have entered higher education through a vocational pathway are successful in their studies, but perceptions of the pathway are often negative. Vocational education students often do not believe in their chances of succeeding in entrance exams and studies.
Goal
Improving the postgraduate study capabilities of vocational students by developing the provision of common degree components, such as languages and mathematics, and career guidance that support capabilities, focusing in particular on areas of expertise that are lacking.
Developing the most fluid and resource-efficient pathway studies by streamlining the implementation of pathway studies and integrating content into vocational studies. Pilots will be carried out in pathway studies in mechanical engineering and social and health care.
Assessing impact and influencing at a national level by producing good operating models based on evidence and utilizing assessment information in national-level discussions.
Impact
The project aims to ensure its effectiveness by producing evidence-based operating models and evaluating their functionality. The Tampere University of Applied Sciences' (TAMK) School of Professional Teacher Education is responsible for the impact assessment of postgraduate study readiness and pathway studies in the project, the results of which will be used in national advocacy work to develop cooperation between vocational education and higher education institutions. Sataedu will embed the new career guidance and pathway education models developed as a permanent part of its operations, which guarantees the continuity and impact of the operations also after the project period.
