D4V - Design For Value 2016-2019

Tampere University

The aim of the DIMECC D4Value program is to enable the best possible use of digital disruption for business growth. The D4Value program has a strong industry demand which has been emphasized by the rapid development in different supply chain parts (factories, ports, ships, etc.).

The program focuses on door-to-door supply chain which is under digital disruptions and is rapidly changing towards an ecosystem of fully autonomous system-of-systems. Although changes are ongoing in many fronts of the supply chain, the overall value network has not been disrupted yet.

Goal

Finnish maritime industries will create with the lead of DIMECC an ecosystem for autonomous marine transport. The objective of the ecosystem is to create the worlds first autonomous marine transport system to the Baltic Sea. Ships will be fully autonomous in 2025.

The success of the new digital systems will not only be related to innovative business models and advancements in technology but also to people and societal issues. Therefore, it is crucial that the human aspects (change of ones work, user and customer experiences, usability, human-machine communication, etc.) as well as systemic issues (legislation, impact on society, social acceptance, organizational change, ecosystem rules, etc.) are considered while the future business ecosystems are designed.
