Regional higher education network

Regional higher education activities are based on contractual cooperation, through which education, RDI activities and fee-based services respond to regional needs. TAMK operates across several sub-regions in Pirkanmaa, offering degree programmes and continuing education driven by competence needs and in close cooperation with business and industry.

History

Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) was established on the basis of several educational institutions in the Pirkanmaa region and was granted its licence to operate as a university of applied sciences in 1996. Its roots extend to the early 20th century in education in business, technology and the arts.

In 2010, TAMK and Pirkanmaa University of Applied Sciences (PIRAMK) merged, creating the second largest multidisciplinary university of applied sciences in Finland. Since 2019, TAMK has been part of the Tampere Universities community (TUNI) together with Tampere University (TAU).

Annual reviews

TAMK’s 2025 annual review highlights positive development: key education indicators strengthened moderately, student numbers increased and RDI funding rose rapidly. This growth provides a solid foundation for the years ahead.
