Together we are greater

From the beginning of 2019, Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences will constitute Finland's most diverse university community. Our community will be made up of more than 30,000 students and close to 5,000 employees.

The second largest university in Finland will be created when Tampere University of Technology and the University of Tampere are merged to establish the new foundation-based Tampere University on 1 January 2019. Tampere University will also become the majority shareholder of Tampere University of Applied Sciences, and the two institutions will engage in even closer collaboration than before.

The underlying premise of our university community is the realisation that the problems faced by humanity have changed. A multidisciplinary approach will not only deliver more effective responses to global challenges but also open up new opportunities for science and its applications.

We have made it our mission to address the greatest challenges that are facing our society and to create new opportunities. We are committed to maintaining close ties with broader society.

We believe in humanity and science

With our world facing new challenges, there is a need for science and the scientific community to take a more active role. This is what we are doing in Tampere.   

Our guiding principles are firmly based on the ideals of science and erudition. We know that by offering more opportunities for learning and scientific inquiry, we will be able to find effective solutions that will benefit people and societies.  

Our world needs not only bold collaboration that transcends disciplinary boundaries but also a belief in humanity and in our ability to create a better future for us all. Because ultimately – human potential is unlimited.
