Katja Komulainen has been elected as the new vice president for education at Tampere University of Applied Sciences. Komulainen is moving to TAMK from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, where she has worked as vice president responsible for teaching and competence.

Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences vice president, M.Sc., Katja Komulainen will start working as a new vice president for education at TAMK by December 1, 2023.

Komulainen describes herself as a solution-oriented and planned operator who approaches work with a positive and enthusiastic attitude. In addition to higher education, she has also worked extensively in the banking world and technology companies in her career.

“It feels wonderful to be chosen for this position, and I look forward to starting the work. TAMK, the Tampere Universities Community and the entire Tampere region are interesting operating environments. There are fields at TAMK that I have not been involved with before, so I will definitely get new angles to my work. I come from Sastamala, Pirkanmaa and I have studied at Tampere University, so this feels a bit like coming home,” Komulainen says.

Choosing Komulainen for the position was influenced, among other things, by her diverse background and skills, her extensive networks, and her strong grasp of leadership and influence.

“We were looking for know-how and experience in managing and renewing everyday life. Together with Katja Komulainen, we gain experience in combining the strengths of the work-life and education. It is important now, when higher education institutions are increasingly obliged to acquire funding for continuous learning, business and RDI activities,” comments Tapio Kujala, president of TAMK.
