Foundations’ Post Doc Pool awards five grants to PhDs at Tampere University
On 18 April 2023, the Foundations granted a total of €1.275.000 to research conducted abroad. In addition, the Foundations reserved a total of €449.000 for second-year grants based on previous commitments.
At Tampere University, funding was granted to:
Mikko Heino, electronic engineering, €18 000, from Ulla Tuominen Foundation
Jussi Isokuortti, chemistry, €50 000, from Finnish Academy of Science and Letters
Markus Klemetti, mathematics, €50 000, from Finnish Academy of Science and Letters
Mira Käkönen, development studies, €12 000, from Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation
Paula Rauhala, philosophy/translation studies, €41 000, Finnish Cultural Foundation
In the Pool’s spring 2023 application round, 106 researchers from across Finland applied for funding, meaning that the Pool was able to support 25% of the applicants.
After 27 application rounds, the Post Doc Pool has allocated funding to more than 700 post-doctoral scholars for working abroad for at least one academic year. One thirds of them have received a two-year funding.
Since 2022, it has been possible to apply for funding for shorter periods of working abroad, for at least six months. The Pool will organise its next application round from 15 August to 15 September 2023 to award some €1.8 million in grants. The results of the application round will be published in November-December 2023.
The Foundation’s Post Doc Pool was established in 2009. In the period of 2022–2024, 13 Foundations participate in the Pool, awarding €3.25 million for research annually. The foundations are Ella and Georg Ehrnrooth Foundation, Emil Aaltonen Foundation, Alfred Kordelin Foundation, Foundation for Economic Education, Päivikki and Sakari Sohlberg Foundation, Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, Finnish Cultural Foundation, Finnish Medical Foundation, Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland, Society of Swedish Literature in Finland, Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion, Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation and Ulla Tuominen Foundation.
