Foundations award Tampere University’s influencers on opening day

In an event organised by Tampere University Foundation and the Industrial Research Fund at Tampere University of Technology on the opening day of the new academic year, a total of 44 prizes and honourable titles were conferred to members of the University community. The awarded sums totalled more than €75.000.

Tampere University Foundation and the Industrial Research Fund at Tampere University of Technology bestowed the sum of €1.500 for dissertations that had received the grade approved with distinction in 2021. The total number of the dissertation prizes was 23. The Foundations also conferred Publisher of the Year awards (€2.000) to three people.  

The City of Tampere’s Research Grant Committee also awarded three dissertation authors in the fields of technology, health, and society whose theses were deemed the best in 2021.

In June 2022, Tampere University conferred prizes for good teaching and teaching development. The recipients were congratulated again in the awards ceremony.

On the opening day, TREY student union’s Teacher of the Year awards (€2.000 each) were also awarded as were Tampere Universities’ Societal Impact award (€2.000) and Open Science Promoter Award (€2.000).

The prizes were conferred on the opening day of the new academic year on 5 September.

The Industrial Research Fund at Tampere University of Technology was established in 1987. It has a mission to support research and other activities undertaken at Tampere University in the field of engineering. The Fund fulfils its mission by giving out grants and scholarships to support research in technology-based disciplines at Tampere University.  

In 2021, the Fund used more than €1.000.000 for this purpose. The Fund donated some €670.000 to 70 students for their thesis and dissertation work and various grants totalling €100.000 to over 200 students. The Fund also donated €300.000 to several projects, including, among other things, €100 000 to the TampereICT project and €100 000 to the Carbon-neutral Energy Solutions project.

The University of Tampere Foundation was established in 1973, when the University of Tampere (now Tampere University) became a state institution. The foundation’s mission is to support activities and research conducted at Tampere University in the fields of social sciences, health sciences, humanities, natural sciences, social research, business and management studies, educational sciences and research and education in the arts.
