Alva - system for reserving, returning and evaluating students’ practical works

Alva is a system enabling the resourcing of laboratory equipments. It is used in Tampere University's measurement laboratories of Physics, Civil Engineering and Chemistry. Alva is used as a booking and evaluation system for laboratory work, in which student/work group can

  • book a shift to the measurement laboratory
  • return the measurement report
  • receive feedback and grade for their work.

The development of the system is coordinated by the Services for Educational Leadership team together with the measurement laboratory staff, kjt.tau [at] tuni.fi (kjt[dot]tau[at]tuni[dot]fi).

Alva system accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to Tampere University’s Alva service at https://alva.tuni.fi. This service falls within the scope of the Finnish Act on the Provision of Digital Services stipulating that public sector organisations have a legal duty to ensure their digital services meet accessibility requirements.

The accessibility of the digital service has been assessed by an external expert organisation. The subject of the evaluation was the user interfaces of student and teacher. This statement is based on the results of the assessment and will be updated as the identified issues are resolved.

This statement was published on 22 March 2021 and updated on 3.11.2022.

Is the service accessible?

The digital service referred to herein partly meets the critical Level A and AA requirements (WCAG-2.1). The identified issues are described below.

Non-accessible content

The website does not yet meet all the accessibility requirements.

Issues with operability:

  • Tampere University’s logo acts as a link but does not always take users to the same location. The location depends on the user’s profile. The service does not have an actual start page where this link could lead. The logo does not include a description, so screen readers will only read the file name of the logo. (WCAG 2.4.4)
