The virtual team working on learning environments focuses on both physical and digital spaces as well as the pedagogy used within them. The goal of development work is to provide up-to-date, purposeful, and information-secure learning environments for teachers and students.

Almost all digital teaching tools have been acquired as cloud services, which are continuously updated regardless of the Tampere universities. You can find the development plans for the key digital tools and the latest feature release notes below.

  • TUNI Moodle: roadmap and release notes
    We are using long-term support (LTS) version. A new LTS major version is released and deployed typically every two years, which may also bring bigger user interface and feature updates. There may be several minor updates per year.
  • Microsoft 365 in teaching and learning: roadmap and release notes
    We are using Microsoft 365 for Education version. New features are published and deployed continuously. There are often differences in the release schedules for roadmap developments between the Education and Enterprise/Business versions.
  • TUNI EXAM: roadmap and release notes
    We are using the latest EXAM version with a delay of few months. Typically, a new major version is released once a year and deployed during the following semester of the release date. There may be several minor updates per year.
  • Panopto: release notes
    Minor and sometimes major version updates are released and deployed continuously several times a year.
  • Zoom: release notes
    We are using Zoom Node version managed by NORDUnet, which affects the availability and release schedule of some features. Minor and sometimes major version updates are released and deployed continuously several times a year.
  • Turnitin: release notes
    Updates are typically released and deployed a few times a year.

Consultation

The IT services offers consultation regarding digital tools for teaching. Consultation helps you  when you have an IT need that cannot be directly addressed with the current service offering. An expert will work with you to assess your needs in order to find the most suitable and feasible solution. The consultation service provides you with a solution plan, offering a well-founded assessment of different solution options, the required resources (time, personnel, costs), and possible ways to proceed. The expert can also guide you to the services already available to you.

A typical situation in consulting is a request to acquire a new digital tool. Below is a checklist of the most essential points to consider.

Key requirements for a new digital tool:

  • A similar digital tool is not already in use within Tampere universities
  • The intended use and the confidentiality of the data processed with the tool have been clarified
  • The license terms are suitable for organizational use
  • Data protection and information security have been reviewed and are in order
  • An owner and payer have been identified
  • Responsible persons are assigned (the owner arranges main users and support)

    Examples: TUNI EXAM, Turnitin, Sisu, Peppi, Norppa, OJP, Wihi
  • Tools for specific needs of a unit, faculty or project: Faculty, unit or project
    Examples: Plussa, Presemo, Peda.net, CodeGrade, ÄlyOppi Moodle
