Mailing list
Mailing lists allow a single message to be sent to many users at the same time. Mailing lists are also useful when messages are delivered to external recipients. By default, only list members can send messages to the list, but this setting can be changed by the list owner. Lists.tuni.fi mailing lists also have the option of daily message digests.
Staff and students at Tampere Universities can request the creation of a new mailing list. The new mailing list must somehow be connected to our higher education community.
Creating a mailing list
Send an email to the IT Helpdesk to request the creation of a new mailing list.
Address format
The standard format of the email address is @lists.tuni.fi. When you contact the IT Helpdesk, state your preferred name for your mailing list. The IT Helpdesk will accommodate your request if possible.
What to include in your request
When you request a new mailing list, you must provide the following information:
- (preferred) address of the mailing list
- list administrator (a member of the Tampere higher education community; usually the person who requested the creation of the list)
These are the only settings that can be specified before the mailing list is handed over to the mailing list administrator.
Using the mailing list
Once IT Helpdesk has entered the above details into the mailing list system, the list will available within about an hour. There will be no separate notification to the owner when the list creation has been completed. The owner can, however, login to the system and on page https://lists.tuni.fi/mailman3/lists/?role=owner verify that the list has been created.
Once the list is ready, the list owner will be responsible for the management (such as adding and deleting members and adjusting list settings) of the list. If list owners are added or changed, at least one of them has to have a Tampere higher education community email address.
Mass mailing
Mass mailing is always done via request to it-helpdesk [at] tuni.fi (it-helpdesk[at]tuni[dot]fi) . You don't necessarily need to order a new mailing list for that, because we have ready-made lists for that purposes. You can tell us more about your needs in the support request. Please note that you must provide yourself a list of members' email addresses when submitting a support request.
