In Finland for a while, Imtiaz has been serving as a student ambassador. The cultural diversity and work-life balance in Finland have won his heart.

Tell us about yourself and your studies

Hey, I am Imtiaz Ahmed Chowdhury. I am from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I completed my bachelor's in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2021. Currently, I am studying my Master's in Electrical Engineering at Tampere University. Apart from studies, I love to do my various activities and sports. I also love to hang out with friends and explore new places.

Why did you choose your current programme?

My background is in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, as I already indicated, therefore I wanted to stay on that path and advance my career here. But I wanted to study smart grids and renewable energy sources, so that's what my master's program is focused on. It is an area of electrical engineering specialization with a promising future. I suppose it would be a significant turning point in the growth of my career.

Can you share with us your experiences in Finland and Tampere?

Well, it's a little challenging to sum up the experience in Tampere, Finland, in a few words. Because I learned a ton of new things here that were fascinating. In comparison to other countries in the world, Finland is rather cold. I haven't had any problems with this, though, so far. People in this area are very kind and always willing to assist if needed. Since I've lived here for a few months, all I can say is that Tampere is pretty nice. Their public transportation system is fantastic. With the same card, you can use the bus or tram wherever in time. This area is quite welcoming to students, and newcomers will adore this city.

What kind of student activities have you participated in?

As a new student, I participated in a few student activities for instance beach party, bus tour, guild's events etc. Students are warmly welcomed in these events. I love to communicate with international as well as Finnish students.

What would you say to someone planning to study and live in Tampere?

I will always prefer it if someone expresses interest in visiting Tampere. This is an excellent location for both staying and studying. Tampere University has its own, highly advanced educational system. As a result, it would be extremely advantageous to students as they pursue careers. I stay in dorms for students close to the university. There is a lot of flexibility, and it is modern. People can travel to other locations with ease thanks to the convenient transit system.

What is your favourite place in the city to go for fun with friends?

I went to a couple more places that I liked best. For instance, the Finlayson area, the Rauhaniemi beach, the Tays, the Pyynikki Park, and the observation tower. I enjoy visiting these locations on the weekends to have fun with my pals.
