Xiaojiao Feng joined TAMK Bachelor's Degree in Bioproduct and Process Engineering to focus on paper-making processes.

How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here originally?

I grew up in China and moved to Tampere in early 2021 for my bachelor's studies in TAMK.

What TAMK degree do you study and why did you choose it?

I am a bachelor's student in the double degree programme in Bioproduct and Process Engineering.

I chose this degree because I am interested in the paper-making direction for my career. Also, I wanted to move to Finland and TAMK's Bachelor's degree was a great opportunity.

In your opinion, what makes TAMK special?

From my point of view, TAMK is quite different from Qilu University of Technology in China. Not only the class module or teachers' attitude is different, but also the study atmosphere and the equipment in TAMK.

How would you describe Tampere as a student city?

I can always see students in overalls on the street and they have often some activities or parties going on. This is quite attractive for me. At the same time, I see the study atmosphere is pretty heavy. At least my classmates all work hard and responsible.

Have you had memorable successes / epic failures in settling in Tampere? How did you overcome difficulties?

When I arrived in Tampere, I was curious about everything. Even drinking water from the tap was new to me!

The Learning Lab in TAMK provided us with the chance to create a club. I decided to create one club called "Culture recording club". Through it, I have organized some activities and also made some new friends. One of my friends, Samuli, invited us to his home and showed us the local culture; such as grilling, roasting, sauna, and archery. I am quite a lucky girl!!!

To whom would you recommend Tampere as a place to study and why?

I hope more Chinese students would complete their studies here. They can experience a quite different classroom environment inTAMK and explore a different approach to studying and working life.

I am now quite different from when I first arrived here. I am more open-minded and responsible than before.

Moreover, Tampere is a comfortable city to live in. It is not as busy as Helsinki, but there is still so much to do. Also, nature is only a few minutes away from wherever you live. It is easy to take a break and enjoy the forest and get fresh air.
