Mikhail Rostovtsev - student ambassador
Mikhail Rostovtsev visited Finland frequently while growing up in Russia, and chose Tampere as his dream student city.

How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here?

I have been living in Tampere already for a year. I liked the city from the very first time I saw it. It has a beautiful mix of old and new: Tall skyscrapers together with old factories, old bricks at the market square and brand new tram rails. Tampere also has a lively bustling environment, especially when comparing with towns in the Eastern Finland which I visited as a child. All these things influenced me to choose Tampere and TAMK to study.

What subject do you study and how did you choose it?

I am in the second year of my Bachelor’s degree in International Business. So far the international business degree looks promising, especially with the decent variety of specialisation modules TAMK offers. There is even the possibility to participate in a double-degree programme, which is invaluable. It can greatly improve your future search for employment.

How would you describe Tampere as a student city?

Tampere is definitely the answer to the question: What student city is? There are plenty of students on the streets, student events constantly going on, start-up companies which offer the possibility to collaborate in projects or complete our practical training in the future. It is easy for students to make themselves at home.

Have you had issues settling in Tampere? How did you overcome difficulties?

The settling process went on smoothly in my case, without any problems. But I would suggest everyone who has ones contact people from TAMK. They are really kind and willing to help with any problem.

To whom would you recommend Tampere as a place to study and why?

I would recommend Tampere as a place for everybody. It is a pleasure to experience Finnish education, which really differs from the traditional one we have in Russia. And you get to live in one of the best cities in Finland.
