Today I want to talk about a rather peculiar game. It is a game unknown to many since it has only been on the market for 3 years. A game that is also only found on the Jackbox platform and that can only be played with an internet connection. His name? “Monster seeking monster”.
It is an online video game that is played through a computer or mobile device, and which requires internet access for its development. A game that can only be accessed through the Jackbox online gaming platform and that is cataloged for people over 10 years of age. Developed by Erica Elam, the game has a charm and quirks of its own that I’ve certainly never seen in any other type of game and I’ve been captivated since my first playthrough.
Thus, the online game has a simple dynamic. Between 3 and 7 players register their character on the platform. They then enter the game and choose whether they want to play the role of a boy or a girl. Once they choose their name and gender, the game assigns them a monster identity. With this identity, the ability that they possess and that no one can know is assigned and revealed only to them. For a better understanding, before explaining how these skills are and what they are for, I must first explain the development and the main objective of the game.
The game has a clear objective: to capture as many hearts as possible. Whoever has the most hearts at the end wins. This is achieved through the structural development of the game and at the end of it once your ability is revealed. So, the main development is undoubtedly the most fun part. This happens through a chat. All players have a panel with the chats of each of the players and once the round starts, they must decide who they want to talk to. The goal in these rounds (a total of 3 rounds) is to get the other player to choose to go out with you.
The key to this is in the conversation you have. It should be fun and captivating. You must ensure that the other person does not leave your chat and that they want to continue talking with you and not with another player. Something similar to real life in the well-known Tinder application.
Your conversation must be captivating enough for that person, because if you don’t get an answer it means that they are talking to another player. If this happens you should try to start another chat with another player in case this time you have luck. All this within a very limited time. At the end of the round, all players can see the main conversation you had and whether that person has chosen you as a partner.
After the 3 rounds are over, your ability as a monster is revealed, and this causes you to get hearts one way or another. For example, the Witch’s hidden ability is to collect one hair for each person she manages to date. At the end of the rounds, the Witch receives an additional heart for each hair collected, that is, for each time she has managed to get a partner. The serial killer, for his part, steals two hearts from the players he has dated at the end of the game.
During my games I must admit that it is undoubtedly one of the games with which I have laughed the most so far. I’m sorry that it’s so unknown because it really is a very creative and very fun game. Playing with my friends I couldn’t stop laughing throughout the game, and the messages we sent were the craziest. Honestly, it is a unique game in its category and I have never seen a game like this.
I must comment that it is often difficult to keep up with the conversation so that it is fun and engaging enough. It requires a lot of creativity and imagination if you want the other person to keep talking to you and laugh. If you are having a bad day, you may not be able to play this game because it will require your best to win. Something that is very paradoxical with life and with real relationships.
Along with this, I think it is worth emphasizing the music and graphics of this online game. For its part, the music immerses you in an atmosphere of love and lust, as if you were in a movie. A perfect setting to write the most captivating messages you can think of. However, and this is the only flaw I can find, are the graphics. I think the illustrations are not very original and are quite typical. For such an innovative game, I think it would have been nice to take a risk on the design and make it more original.
But it’s just a personal assessment. The game itself is a game that I really want to recommend to everyone who is looking for new gaming experiences and to everyone who wants to laugh until their ribs break.
