About me

Industrial doctoral researcher working on the topic, "Business Cases for Robotisation, Artificial Intelligence, and Process Efficiency in Heavy-Duty Mobile Machinery".

Background:

  • 2011-2015: B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Mumbai (Don Bosco Institute of Technology), Mumbai, India
  • 2016: Junior Design Engineer at Tork Motorcycles, Pune, India. Co-founder of the Club of Indian Professional Engineers, Pune, India.
  • 2017-2019: M.Sc. in Production Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • 2020-Present: Industrial Doctorate (MORE-ITN https://www.more-itn.eu/ ) Marie Curie Horizon 2020 (MSCA-ITN)

Responsibilities

Taking a holistic view of the heavy-duty mobile machinery (HDMM) industry, I investigate new business cases for automated and autonomous HDMMs. My activities are summarized by the following 3 research themes in focus areas construction, mining, and yard logistics.

1. What is the most appropriate level of automation for HDMMs? For example, would it be feasible to develop and deploy fully autonomous HDMMs, or would it be better to settle for advanced operator assistance systems or teleoperated systems?

  • How are key enabling technologies changing automation capabilities?
  • State of the art analysis
  • Stakeholder analysis

2. What are the main barriers and drivers to the automation of HDMMs? For example, regulations, labour shortages, safety/liability issues with automated machines, standardisation, etc.

3. How do we design new business models or a framework for business models to enable the deployment of future automated and autonomous HDMMs?

  • Business and innovation ecosytems.
  • Market research (What are the other industries doing?)
  • Product as a service, teleoperation business models, etc.

Fields of expertise

  • Automation and Autonomy- conceptual and practical knowledge and framework development.
  • Business model canvas- applied in real life context of HDMMs.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration- development of methods such as stakeholder classification and prioritisation framework, joint research output.
  • Stakeholder analysis- stakeholder mapping and visualisation.
  • Qualitative research methods- applied in research studies.
  • Business and management strategy- applied in research studies.
  • Communication- presentation and visualisation of complex topics for general audiences.
