Strengthening Expertise in Crisis Management for Robust Higher Education - SECURE (EDUFI - TFK)

Since 1 August 2026, the Higher Education Group (HEG), Faculty of Management and Business, coordinates the project Strengthening Expertise in Crisis Management for Robust Higher Education (SECURE), funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) through the Team Finland Knowledge (TFK) Programme. The two-year project is implemented in cooperation with Sumy State University and Kherson State University and aims to strengthen expertise in crisis management, robustness, and institutional preparedness within higher education. The project also contributes to the development of Ukrainian Studies in Higher Education at Tampere University through its collaboration with the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies and the Alliance of Ukrainian Universities. 

The project finances the joint development and implementation of the 5 ECTS study course “Ukrainian Studies in Higher Education: War, Crisis, and Institutional Change” for Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral students. The course will be delivered in a hybrid format, combining on-site teaching at Tampere University with virtual participation from Ukrainian higher education institutions. The programme includes staff mobility from Ukraine to Finland and online learning opportunities that enable the engagement of a wider Ukrainian academic community.

Drawing on Ukraine’s experience of maintaining higher education during wartime, SECURE creates opportunities for mutual learning between Finnish and Ukrainian higher education communities. The project will support developing expertise in higher education governance, crisis preparedness, and institutional resilience, while fostering sustainable academic cooperation between Finland and Ukraine.
