Opening ceremony of the academic year 2026–2027 of Tampere University

Welcome to the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2026/27 at Tampere University, held in the Main Auditorium on the city centre campus on Wednesday 2 September 2026, starting at 12.

Registration for the celebration will open in August, and it will be announced on the intranet

Programme

• Doors to the Main Auditorium open at 12:00.
• The academic procession enters, accompanied by music at 12:15
• Opening speech by Keijo Hämäläinen, President of Tampere University.
• Keynote speech 
• Greetings from the Student Union of Tampere University (TREY) 
• Cultural performance
• The procession exits the auditorium, followed by the audience.
• Cake, coffee and sparkling wine served in the lobby of the Main Auditorium.

The dress code for the audience is informal wear. The procession participants will wear a dark suit and doctoral hat (carried by hand).

In addition, a badge fair for students will be held in the Main Building (Päätalo) along the hallway near Alakuppila café. Association badges for student overalls will be available at the fair.

The day of the opening ceremony will culminate in the kick-off party for the academic year at Fame Club, organised by the Student Union TREY. More information about the programme and tickets.
