The Handover of the Professors of Practice in Journalism on Tuesday

The traditional handover event for the Professor of Practice in Journalism will be held on Tuesday, 1 September, from 12:00 to 15:00 in lecture hall D11 in the Main Building.
At the event, outgoing Professor of Practice Pasi Toivonen will speak from 12:15 to 13:00 about encountering people in journalism and about artificial intelligence in journalism, under the title A Few Tips for Media Bosses. The new Professor of Practice in Journalism, Olga Smirnova, will give a lecture from 13:15 to 14:00 titled Fact-checking and OSINT: Why bother?
The third part of the event, from 14:15 to 15:00, is reserved for a discussion between the Professors of Practice and the audience.
The event will be opened by Marko Ala-Fossi, Head of the Communication Sciences unit. The event can also be followed on Radio Moreeni (98.4 MHz).
The lectures are part of the third-year bachelor’s course Journalism as a Profession, but they are open to all teachers, researchers and students interested in journalism.
Olga Smirnova’s lectures will also be offered on two lecture courses: the master’s-level journalism course Fact-Checking and Explaining its Results, which begins in the autumn, and the master’s-level course Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) Verification in Visual Journalism and Investigations, which begins in the spring.
A warm welcome to all!
