DISTREC - Diagon Street Reconstruction

Co-funded by the European Union
Tampere University of Applied Sciences
Duration of project1.2.2026–31.7.2027

The project aims to train music industry professionals and aspiring individuals to operate in the national and international music business environment. The training will be carried out from a regional perspective in Tampere, but the project’s training will be offered nationally. As a result of
the project, the concept and model can be utilized in major cities across Finland. The goal is to create a regional or city-specific music industry ecosystem that includes an active event offering, record releases, various music media platforms such as radio, podcasts, print media, and the
utilization of musical works in music publishing.

Background

The project partly builds on the EU co-funded Music Agent training program (2024–2025)
implemented by Tampere University of Applied Sciences, which will be adapted to the recording
industry, publishing sector, and popular music media industry. The training emphasizes peer
support, work supervision, subject-matter expertise, and networking. However, a new element
in the project is a very different industrial sector, ecosystem development, and particularly
international business expertise. Some of the training will be offered in English.

Goal

The project’s goal is to map the current and future skill needs of the music industry and design and pilot continuing education in the field. The aim is to create a new generation of popular music ecosystem in Tampere and Pirkanmaa that can operate in international markets and promote Finnish popular music’s global recognition. If the continuing education proves
successful, it can be replicated in several Finnish cities.

Impact

Development of business expertise in the music industry, both nationally and with an eye on international business. Creation and strengthening of a network and music industry ecosystem, and transfer of tacit knowledge using the mentoring model. The project will result in a report on the development needs of the music industry ecosystem and a piloted continuing education package for industry players. The results will be available to all industry players, and will be disseminated in industry networks, events and publications.
