Tampere University of Applied Sciences
Duration of project1.11.2025–30.4.2028

Connecting Teachers – A Community of Practice to Promote Teachers’ Wellbeing is an Erasmus+ cooperation project that develops evidence-based solutions to support teachers’ wellbeing, resilience, and retention. The project combines research, a training programme for pre-service teachers, and a digital community that connects future and practicing teachers.

The project is implemented in Finland, Italy, France and Portugal through collaboration between higher education institutions and an organisation specialised in educational development. Together, the partners explore the current realities of the teaching profession, teachers’ wellbeing, and ways to strengthen pre-service teachers’ readiness for working life.

Background

Across Europe, teacher shortages, decreasing attractiveness of the profession, and growing workload pressures pose significant challenges. The project responds to the need to support pre-service teachers in their transition to working life and to strengthen teachers’ wellbeing and professional sustainability through evidence-based approaches.

European studies have highlighted challenges related to teachers’ wellbeing, workload, professional retention and the attractiveness of the teaching profession. Addressing these issues is essential for ensuring high-quality education, longer teaching careers and a sustainable future workforce in education.

Goal

The project aims to increase understanding of the realities of the teaching profession, support pre-service teachers in their transition to professional practice, and develop solutions that promote teachers’ wellbeing and retention. Another key objective is to create a digital community that supports professional development and peer learning among teachers.

The project generates comparative knowledge from different countries, develops learning resources for pre-service teachers, and creates approaches that support professional growth both during teacher education and throughout working life. It also aims to strengthen dialogue and knowledge exchange between future teachers and those already working in the profession.

Impact

The project will produce research findings, training materials, educational toolkits, and a digital community that support teachers’ wellbeing and professional growth. The outcomes are expected to enhance the attractiveness of the teaching profession, improve teacher retention, and contribute to high-quality education across Europe.

In the long term, the project results can be utilised in teacher education, continuing professional development and the strategic development of educational organisations. The project aims to create a lasting impact by supporting professional communities, teacher wellbeing and lifelong learning beyond the project period.
