ALKU – Adults' Everyday Life, Children's Future is a development project that creates a new multidisciplinary working model for child welfare open care services in the Pirkanmaa region. The project establishes a dedicated ALKU team around each young person, providing continuous support and helping young people and their families navigate different services. At the same time, the project strengthens collaboration between child welfare services, schools, youth work, and social and healthcare services across organizational boundaries. The overall goal is to provide earlier and more effective support, improve the wellbeing of young people and families, and reduce the need for more intensive child welfare interventions.
Background
The need for child welfare services has increased, and many young people require support from more intensive child welfare services. However, services are often fragmented across different organizations, making it difficult for young people and families to receive timely support. The ALKU project develops a new multidisciplinary operating model that brings together the support a young person needs and strengthens collaboration between different professionals and service providers. The aim is to improve the wellbeing of young people and families and to prevent the need for more intensive child welfare interventions.
Goal
The ALKU project aims to develop a new multidisciplinary operating model for child welfare open care services, in which young people and their families receive timely and continuous support from one dedicated team. The project strengthens collaboration between different professionals and organizations, develops structures and competencies, and generates knowledge on effective practices. The long-term goal is to improve the wellbeing of young people and reduce the need for out-of-home placements.
Impact
The ALKU project strengthens the support available to young people and families by bringing together expertise from different services into a single multidisciplinary team. The project improves service coordination, enhances collaboration between professionals, and develops sustainable operating models for child welfare open care services. As a result, young people receive more timely support, family wellbeing is strengthened, and the need for more intensive child welfare interventions is reduced.
