<div class="form-control-static">This course based on the research: Performing Violence, Limits and Transformative Means in Staged Violence, will explore on a practical level and academic level different aspects of staged violence.Elements of invisible violence, structural violence, justified versus unjustified violence, trauma and also cathartic violence, grotesque violence, fun violence will be explored and student will have the possibility to develop personal situation in which to explore these different phenomena related to violence.The course combines specific mask techniques and physical theatre techniques in order to explore grotesque violence and fun violence. For instance commedia dell’arte masks will be used as a gateway to unleash demonic and carnivalistic creatures. In addition, through individual’s exploration on invisible violence or more nuanced facets of staged violence, participants will have the chance to explore transformative means to approach violence not necessarily as something destructive but also as something empowering.&nbsp;</div>

The course will be organized as a two-week intensive course in January 2026. Please note that the application period ends already on September 10, 2025.The theatre arts courses at the Open University are intended only for professional actors.The right to study will be granted based on the motivation letter and the total number of applicants after the application period has ended. A short motivation letter must be attached to the application form.

The participants will:<ul><li>explore staged violence from three different aspects: from a dramaturgical point of view, from the spectator position and from the performer position. &nbsp;</li><li>get a wider understanding and broader critical thinking regarding the implementation of staged violence. &nbsp;</li><li>develop acting methods to embody the notion of violence; either as destructive or as transformative.</li></ul>
