Tampere University

KAITSE- and KAITSE-EP projects are exploring how the regional government reform and urban development are reconciled in three Finnish urban areas. The projects aim to find out what kind of perspectives the different actors have towards the regional government reform and how the relationships among the actors will evolve during the reform. In the projects, we also try to perceive how Finnish regional and local government will develop in the near future.

At the same time, the role and significance of cities and urban areas have increased. That is why there is a need is to analyse the reform from local and regional government perspective and combine the objectives of reform to the targets of urban development. The purpose of this study is to produce information that can be applied to sustain the growth and development of the urban areas. The research focuses on three Finnish urban areas in Tampere Region, Southwest Finland and South Ostrobothnia.
