Goal

The main goal of the project is to create conditions and prepare the operational models, test platforms and
communications for Smart Manufacturing Hub operating in Tampere Region. The hub aims to make Pirkanmaa region
one of the leading centers of EU research, development and innovation support for smart and sustainable
manufacturing industry. The hub wants to be a forerunner in industrial digitalization and in making manufacturing
industry carbon neutral and sustainable. The aim is to build operating models, operating environments and
communications to a new level, to serve the needs of the industrial ecosystem of the entire region. And, to some
extent, also the whole Finland. The project involves four key stakeholder organizations from Pirkanmaa, who are
responsible for advancing the project: Business Tampere, VTT, University of Tampere (TAU) and Tampere University
of Applied Sciences (TAMK). In addition, industry and other stakeholders will be widely involved in the project work in
order to gain concrete, broad support and impact. The project has six sets of objectives and actions that are linked
together to form a new Smart Manufacturing Hub.
