Optimized Utilization of Renewable Electrical Energy by Means of Energy Storage

Tampere University of Applied Sciences
Duration of project1.4.2018–31.12.2020

The aim is to optimise use of renewable electrical energy by means of cost-effective energy storage technologies.

Goal

In this project, a concrete innovation and demonstration environment of renewable electrical energy will be built at Tampere Adult Education Centre located in Nirva, Tampere. Research and development will be carried out in collaboration between Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Tampere Adult Education Centre, and small- and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in the field. Main topics are related to exploiting large-scale energy storage solutions in order to optimise utilisation of renewable electrical energy and electrical vehicles.

Cost-effective large-scale energy storage will open new possibilities to utilise weather-dependent renewable electrical energy technologies and also electric vehicles and transportation. Consequently, new market opportunities will open to SMEs. In the project, a novel comprehensive system of electrical energy will be carried out. Topical issues such as power peaks, elasticity of demand and optimisation of energy use by means of energy storage will be studied. Development will be carried out in close collaboration between the SMEs and educational institutions.
