The research focuses on an important issue - managing emotions in digital communication. Managing and controlling emotions is vital in all human communication. However, it seems to lose ground on social media, which results in the affective polarisation of opinions. The conversations tend to get disrupted and the content is easily disconnected from the original topic of conversation.
Goal
The goal of the research project is to study how emotions are sparked, what their behavioural consequences are, and how emotion management could be promoted on social media. The project applies both experimental and qualitative methods to find out how emotions work and function in digital communication. The multi-disciplinary project combines high-level expertise on human-computer interaction, emotional psychology, critical user interface design, computer sciences, artificial intelligence and ethical technology.
