In the research project "Drifting teens: inequalities in the discourses concerning vocational school students and the Finnish society" we articulate mechanisms for producing inequalities concerning vocational school students. We concentrate especially on the processes of othering by choosing certain ways of framing these youth, both in media and in everyday language. These kinds of actions can affect the inequality and polarization at a larger scale in the Finnish society.

The project Drifting teens aims to challenge hierarchies between researchers and the youth, whose worlds appear as the field and topic of research. We have chosen to use methods, that allow us to break even a little these traditional positions. For example artistic and other creative workshops are in important role in our work.
